Episode 01: Diving Deep

 

In episode 1, I sit down with marine biologist, Chugey Sepulveda. Chugey is the Director and Lead Scientist at the Pfleger Institute of Environment Research (PIER). We discuss the evolution and inception of the Southern California commercial deep-set swordfish fishery. Chugey explains the reasons for why there was a need to develop the fishery and the benefits of an additional sustainable method for harvesting local swordfish. We also discuss the physiology, behaviors and migration of Southern California swordfish. Lastly we breakdown the explosion of the new recreational deep drop fishery and its complexities.
